Harman Phoenix 200

Harman Phoenix 200 on Fujifilm is a high-contrast, lo-fi colour-negative look built on Eterna Bleach Bypass, pushed with Color +2, Color Chrome Effect Strong and Strong / Large grain so reds stay punchy while shadows drift toward a teal crossover. It is deliberately the anti-Portra: rough, saturated where it counts, and prone to blooming highlights.

Why this base

Eterna Bleach Bypass is the only simulation that delivers Phoenix’s silvery, crushed contrast with muted mids, and layering Color +2 with Color Chrome Effect Strong restores the film’s aggressive reds and teals without flattening the curve. That tension — desaturated base, boosted saturation on the strongest hues — is exactly what makes real Phoenix scans look unstable. The WB shift of Red +3 warms the highlights toward Phoenix’s magenta-red halation, while Blue +1 nudges the shadows cool for the signature crossover.

How to shoot it

Expose slightly under, around -1/3 to 0 EV, and point the frame toward bright windows, low sun or shop signage so Highlight +2 and the DR200 curve let those edges bloom rather than clip cleanly. DR200 keeps a little roll-off in the brights so halation reads as glow instead of hard white. Keep ISO floating up to 6400 — the grain is the point here. Strong / Large grain with Noise Reduction -2 preserves the coarse, charismatic texture, and Sharpness -1 with Clarity +1 gives a soft-yet-gritty edge rather than clinical detail. Golden hour, wet street pavement and neon-lit dusk all suit this recipe because the warm-cool split reads strongest when the light itself is mixed.

What to avoid

Do not treat this as a clean skin-tone recipe. The Red +3 shift, Shadow +2 crush and Color Chrome Effect Strong will render faces ruddy and contrast-heavy, which is faithful to Phoenix but wrong for flattering portraits. Avoid flat, evenly lit overcast scenes with no bright anchor — without a light source to bloom against, the halation character disappears and you are left with only the contrast and grain. Color Chrome FX Blue is intentionally set to Weak, not Strong, so skies keep some of that slightly-off teal rather than going deep and correct; pushing it further removes the crossover that defines this experimental look.
