How to shoot it

Clarity +1 adds micro-contrast in fabric, brick and skin texture, and Noise Reduction −4 keeps the grain crisp instead of smeared. A daylight white balance with zero shift keeps tonal mapping neutral, since colour temperature only affects the grey conversion here. Add 0 to +1/3 EV in flat light to protect mid-grey brightness.

What to avoid

Do not treat this as a high-contrast push look — Highlight −1 and Shadow +1 are deliberately restrained to mimic unpushed box speed, so resist dialling both to +2 or the forgiving highlight roll-off disappears. Avoid raising Noise Reduction above 0, which would soften the Strong/Large grain that defines the whole look, and skip Acros+R here since its red filter darkens skies and lightens skin too aggressively for this gentle reportage register.
