The filter is the recipe. Acros+R darkens skies and deepens contrast — the dramatic, graphic answer. Acros+G lifts skin and keeps mid-greys creamy — the portrait and reportage answer. Plain Acros sits between. Choose the variant for what dominates your frames, not by taste in the abstract.
Grain is structure, not decoration. Strong/Large grain with Noise Reduction pulled to −4 is what makes a digital mono file read as film — smooth silver-less grey is the giveaway. The trade: it shows at large print sizes, so the 40MP bodies can afford it more than a crop will.
Expose for the highlights. Every recipe here leans on DR200–DR400 with a restrained highlight curve — monochrome forgives deep shadows far more gracefully than clipped whites.
